We are delighted that the Government has today announced the implementation of a statutory levy on gambling operators to fund the research, prevention and treatment of gambling related harm and a £5 stake limit on harmful slots content.
Both measures were first proposed, as they have been set out today, in our report in 2019 and we have campaigned tirelessly on them, inspired by the vast number of people and families who have been harmed by gambling.
For the first time, the gambling industry will be mandated to pay for the harm they cause, with the levy generating over £100m a year and there will be limits on spending for the most addictive games.
Whilst there is much more to do, this is a seismic moment and a huge step forward. We welcome it unreservedly.
