The All Party Parliamentary Group for Gambling Reform has been created to provide a forum for discussion and further investigation into the wider impact of gambling related harm in our communities. The group’s statement of purpose is:

“To assess how the gambling industry should be reformed to prevent harm”

The APPG has campaigned for 10 years to reform gambling legislation in this country. We are pleased that the following reforms have been introduced following the collective efforts of this APPG and wider campaign groups, but there is much more to do and the industry is fast evolving. The Group will continue to champion the reform of outdated gambling legislation in this country which remains analogue legislation in a digital age.

Reforms include:

• The eradication of highly addictive Fixed Odds Betting Terminals gambling machines which raised £1.8bn a year for the industry
• The introduction of a Government White Paper
• The Introduction of a Statutory Levy on the gambling industry to pay for the harm they cause
• Stake limits for the first time on casino games of £2 for 18-25s and £5 for over 25s
• Affordability checks
• Progress towards a Statutory Ombudsman
• Banning of gambling on credit cards
• An increase in the age of play on the National Lottery from 16 to 18
• And end to direct marketing
• Restrictions on advertising
